40 HOUR CONTRACTOR/SUPERVISOR INITIAL

This course is the most comprehensive training discipline approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and is conducted following requirements under the Model Accreditation Plan (MAP). It is also strictly regulated by the State of Michigan, Department of Occupational Health - Asbestos Division. Individuals who are required to have this level of training and receive accreditation include:

1. Person who are to conduct work with asbestos containing material defined as Class I under OSHA regulations.

2. Persons who intend to supervise any of the following activities:
   a. A response action other than an operations and maintenance activity
   b. A maintenance activity that disturbs friable asbestos containing material other than operations and maintenance activity
   c. A response action for a major fiber release episode

Topics include:

1. Physical Characteristics of Asbestos and Asbestos Containing Materials
2. Potential Health Effects Related to Asbestos Exposure
3. Employee Person Protective Equipment
4. Respiratory Protection
5. State of The Art Work Practices
6. Personal Hygiene
7. Additional Safety Hazards
8. Medical Monitoring
9. Air Monitoring
10. Relevant Local, State, and Federal Regulatory Requirements
11. Insurance and Liability Issues
12. Record Keeping
13. Supervisory Techniques for Employee Management
14. Contract Specifications

Also included in the course are at least 14 hours of hands-on training in the construction of containment, glove bags, and mini-enclosures, as well as, the removal of non ACM make to look like the real thing! Instructors reserve the right to cover material above and beyond the scope of the MAP.
